Authorities find nothing after tip-off about smuggled weapons at KZN prison

Law enforcement agencies kicked into gear on Thursday morning when they received a tip-off that unauthorised weapons had been smuggled into a Westville correctional services facility in Kwazulu-Natal.

Provincial correctional services spokesperson Thulani Mdluli said the call they received about alleged smuggling at the Medium A facility was anonymous.

After searching the facility, they found no illegal, dangerous weapons.

Mdluli said they conducted unannounced search operations at any given time.

"We shall continue to put safety and security [as] our priority at all times as it  remains our mandate to do so."
