Bail for woman accused of arranging hit on hubby

Cape Town - A woman accused of offering R200 000 for a hit on her husband was granted R30 000 bail in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Petina Coetzee hid her face with a scarf her lawyer handed to her, and only removed it when facing Magistrate Goolam Bawa.

Last Tuesday, the 44-year-old Kenilworth woman was arrested in a police sting in which she allegedly tried to arrange her husband Austin's death. She was arrested in the parking lot at the Lansdowne railway station.

She made her first appearance in court last Thursday.

Her arrest followed information received by Manenberg police. She has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

The softly-spoken Coetzee told Bawa she understood the proceedings and the conditions of her bail. The State did not oppose her application

Her terms of bail include reporting to a police station in Elsiesriver every day, giving the court her passport, and obtaining written permission to leave the Western Cape.

She would return to court on December 2, for the Director of Public Prosecutions to decide which court her case should be heard in.
