Polokwane - Limpopo's third-best matric pupil on Wednesday encouraged the 2016 matrics at her old school to be disciplined.

"There are some friends who are destructive. You must leave them. You have to be disciplined at all times," Gift Sebati told pupils at the Dendron High School, where she matriculated last year.

She was speaking during a visit to the school by Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha, former education MEC Dickson Masemola, and current MEC Ishmael Kgetjepe. They wanted to encourage the new crop of matrics.

Mathabatha told pupils he was visiting the province’s best schools to find out what the secret to their success was.

The province had set itself the goal of achieving an 80% matric pass rate this year. It got 65.9% in 2015.

Dendron pupils believed it was achievable and promised Mathabatha to work hard and improve their results.

School principal Maloko Matsapola said the only reason the school did not produce better results was because it did not have as many pupils as other top-performing schools. She was optimistic that with 267 pupils in the current year, it would do better.
