Bushbuckridge - A beer truck overturned in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, injuring a woman, and attracting locals who helped themselves to the cargo.

“I went there in the hope to get free alcohol. Then I saw that a lady was injured when the crates fell. There were nurses around, so we carried her to the hospital,” said one local resident, who did not want to be named.

The SA Breweries truck overturned near Mpenyatsatsi, Bushbuckridge, late on Wednesday afternoon. It was travelling to Bushbuckridge from Graskop.

Minutes after the driver had stopped to inspect the damage and see how badly the woman was injured, people came running to pick up the crates and bottles. Some loaded them onto bakkies and wheelbarrows.

Police spokesperson Captain Ndlovukazi Mashele said they were investigating.
