“I love him very much. I’d do anything to bring him back,” says Pule Lemme, the best friend of slain teenager Jason Kruis (16).

The two boys were introduced by mutual friends at a party about four years ago. They developed a close bond and saw each other as brothers.

“I took his number and started messaging him on WhatsApp. We chatted so lekker and then started hanging out together.”

Jason died on Tuesday after falling from the back of a bakkie. One of the two boys who was with Jason at the time claimed they had been kidnapped by the driver, who lost control of the vehicle on the N1, Roodepoort Record reported.

The circumstances surrounding Jason’s death have not been confirmed. He was critically injured during the incident and was declared dead after being rushed to hospital, his stepmother Lyn Kruis confirmed to YOU on Wednesday.

A post mortem is due to be conducted after Christmas.

Pule (18) says he and Jason were inseparable.

Jason attended Florida High School while Pule attended Die Burger High School, where he was a prefect this year.

One of their favorite things to do was to eat out together. “We were always hungry,” laughs Pule.

Pule and Jason also regularly chatted about the future and dreamt of opening a construction company together.

“We also argued and fought a lot. I was very protective of Jason. I remember that one day we fought because he’d wanted to walk off somewhere. I insisted that I’d fetch him and take him where he needed to be,” Pule remembers.

“He told me, ‘You’re not my dad’, I told him, ‘I know, I’m your brother’.”

Pule doesn’t know much about the incident that claimed Jason’s life. “There are so many stories doing the rounds.”

“If anyone out there has any information about what happened to my brother, they need to contact me please. I cannot go on like this. I’ve lost my whole life,” says Pule, his voice cracking.

“Yes, I loved him very much. Jason was the first one who gave me that feeling of brotherhood and ‘bromance’. He showed me what brother love was.”
