Cape Town - A Bloemfontein hawker is in a critical condition after he was shot five times on Monday morning, Free State police said.

The hawker, a Lesotho national who operated at the Majaka-thata taxi rank in the city centre, was targeted around 06:00, said Constable Wendy Nkabi.

The unidentified shooter was still on the run after fleeing the scene.

Nkabi appealed for information on the suspect's whereabouts or the circumstances of the shooting.
