Johannesburg – A 26-year-old man was arrested on Monday in Rockville, Tsakane for conning foreign nationals into buying fake health inspection certificates, Ekurhuleni Metro Police said.

The arrested man was made after official Ekurhuleni health practitioners tipped off police, spokesperson Clifford Shongwe said.

"Practitioners said that he targets foreign nationals' tuck shops and that according to the municipality, there are fees for any certificates to be issued by these bogus inspectors.

"Allegedly they charge between R100 to R590 for certificates," said Shongwe.

The man was caught on CCTV cameras in one of the shops.

Shongwe said if anyone encountered fake health inspectors they should contact the Tsakane Customer Care Centre.
