Johannesburg – Commissioner Road in Boksburg has been re-opened following a violent protest on Saturday morning, local police said.
EMPD spokesperson, acting lieutenant colonel Kobeli Mokheseng, said protesters blockaded Commissioner Road between Du Preez and Old Elsburg from around 05:00.
Rubble, stones and burning tyres were used during the demonstration by a group of people claiming to be living nearby.
Mokheseng said metro police and the police K9 unit attended the scene where the group handed a letter of demands to the mayoral committee.
The road was cleared at around 12:45 after the group handed over its letter of demand.
The police were still monitoring the area.
