Durban - A 7-year-old boy was killed and another child was critically injured in a car accident at an intersection in Mobeni, south of Durban, on Tuesday morning.

Rescue Care spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said medics had rushed to the junction of South Coast and Blamey roads after a car was hit by a minibus taxi.

"From what could be gathered at the scene, a taxi had hit the side of the car. Two boys aged seven and four years old were getting a lift to school and were badly injured," he said.

Jamieson said the older child was badly injured and his condition had deteriorated drastically.

"Despite the best efforts of paramedics the boy was declared dead at the scene. The other child was in a critical condition and was transported by ambulance to a hospital in the city for further urgent treatment," he added.

A pedestrian was also injured in the accident and later died in hospital.
