Durban – A 7-year old boy managed to find help after falling out of a speeding train in the Shongweni Valley near Durban on Wednesday.

It’s believed that the boy was travelling to school on the train, which departed from Devilwood train station, when the doors of the train were blocked from closing by commuters.
Netcare 911’s Chris Botha said in a statement that the boy had apparently stood in the doorway when the train entered a tunnel, which caused the child to be sucked out from the train, hitting his head against the concrete.

“With severe injuries to the head, the child bravely managed to grab his school tie and strap his head back together,” Botha said.

The critically injured child crawled out of the tunnel and lay next to the tracks where a group of off-road bikers found him and alerted emergency services.

Paramedics were dispatched to the scene and stabilised the boy before transporting him via helicopter to a hospital in Durban.
