Flood warnings have been issued for the eastern parts of Eastern Cape, southern KwaZulu-Natal, the southern and western parts of the Free State and eastern Northern Cape, and Johannesburg and its surrounding areas.WATCH

Cape Town - A bus that was trapped in Meiringspoort, between De Rust and Beaufort West, was able to leave the pass on Monday, Western Cape traffic chief Kenny Africa said.

Floods and heavy rain led to the passenger vehicle being trapped between two bridges on Sunday night. Communication with the bus was lost.

Africa said it had not been safe for the bus to move and the decision was made that it should stay where it was until the water level had dropped.

“It was able to leave the pass early this morning,” he confirmed.

Meiringspoort consists of 13 crossings via bridges over the river, Africa explained.

No one was injured and the road would remain closed until the end of the day, he said.

The Swartberg Pass, linking Oudtshoorn with Prince Albert, was on Monday closed indefinitely due to rockfalls.
