By-elections already being arranged

Cape Town - There will be no rest for the IEC following the August 3 municipal elections, after the death of two councillors set plans for by-elections into motion.

According to the commission, municipal managers had notified them of a Ward 4 councillor who died in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, as well as a Ward 17 councillor in Mbhashe. In the City of Cape Town's Ward 108, a vacancy came about when a councillor was elected to both the ward and the Proportional Representation seats. The councillor took up the PR seat.

A by-election timetable for November 9 hadbeen drafted, but still needs to be approved by the Commission, so as to fill these ward vacancies.
