Cape Town – A couple has been arrested in Bellville for alleged insurance fraud, the Western Cape Hawks said on Sunday.

Officers executed search and seizure warrants at two addresses in Vredenburg and an address in Bellville, on Saturday morning, provincial spokesperson Lloyd Ramovha said.

The raids were co-ordinated at the same time and officers seized several documents and suspected stolen property.

“The arrests followed investigations into an insurance fraud case amounting to thousands of rands allegedly perpetrated in Cape Town recently,” he said.

Ramovha said the pair, both 38, were expected to appear on charges of fraud in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

He could not provide further information.

According to the City of Cape Town’s valuation roll, the raided Bellville property was owned by a close relative of Dennis Klassen, a former director of the Red Ant Security Services.

Klassen, in his 50s, was the subject of two ongoing court cases, one of them involving his daughter, Rochelle Klassen Adonis, a former director of the company's Cape Town branch.

The father and daughter were expected to stand trial in Johannesburg later this year on 102 charges of fraud and theft involving about R8m.

They were accused of “acting together in defrauding the company assets... between 2010 and 2013,” according to a statement national police spokesperson, Brigadier Vish Naidoo, issued at the time.

In a separate matter, Klassen was accused of using the security company’s funds to buy firearms. According to police at the time, the firearms were bought in Johannesburg and couriered to Cape Town.

He faced charges of theft, fraud and possession of unlicensed firearms.
