Cape Town – Two men allegedly involved in dating scams have been arrested in Cape Town, police said on Friday.

Officers executed a search warrant at a complex in West Beach on Thursday, where the foreign nationals, both 31, were based, Table View police said in a statement.

They found laptops with information of passports and bank account details.

"One of the suspects grabbed a cellphone, took the sim card out and flushed it down the toilet. He was immediately arrested."

He would face an additional charge of defeating the ends of justice, in addition to the fraud charge they both faced.

Laptops and cellphones were confiscated and handed in as evidence.

Large sums of cash, bank statements and bank receipts were also handed in.

The men were expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Monday.
