Cape Town - At least 40 firefighters are trying to extinguish a blaze on the mountain slopes above Capri Village in Cape Town, the city's fire and rescue services said.

They responded to the fire at 10.30 on Tuesday and 10 fire vehicles are on the scene, said spokesperson Liezl Moodie. A helicopter is water bombing inaccessible areas.

Staff from Table Mountain National Park and Working on Fire are helping to extinguish the "extensive" vegetation blaze. It is close to the Glencairn Expressway.

The village is between Noordhoek, Kommetjie and Fish Hoek.

Moodie said there is no immediate danger to property.

Last week a fire engulfed the southern Cape peninsula, destroying a number of homes and holiday cottages in Simon's Town.
