Cape Town – A man was airlifted to hospital after he was seriously injured when he was crushed by a tractor tyre at an off-road motocross track in Morning Star, Cape Town, on Friday, paramedics said.

Paramedics found the 24-year-old man lying next to the tractor surrounded by workers, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

"It is understood the man was trying to change the tyre, weighing roughly 500kg, when it fell on top of him.

"Several workers witnessed this and then lifted the tyre and pulled him out,"  said Meiring.

The man was treated on the scene and then airlifted to Groote Schuur Hospital.
