Cape Town - The Blue Downs Magistrate's Court has sentenced a man to 10 years in jail for raping a woman in 2010, Western Cape police said on Wednesday.

The victim, 20 at the time, was on her way to work in the early hours of the morning when she was robbed and raped on Stellenbosch Arterial Road, said Captain FC van Wyk.

Her attacker wore a balaclava.

Gershwin Tengwan, 27, was linked by DNA evidence to the crime, said Van Wyk.

He had been in custody since 2012 and was finally sentenced on a rape charge on Tuesday.
