Cape Town – A minibus taxi driver, who allegedly stabbed another driver at the Cape Town station deck, was left the worse for wear after he tried to flee the scene, a City official said on Monday.

After allegedly stabbing the other driver in the buttock on Friday, he decided to jump through an air vent at the station deck with officers in hot pursuit, said law enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason.

He ended up on the railway tracks.

"The impact of him hitting the rails as he landed shattered his leg and this made the officers' job of arresting him so much easier, as he lay immobile on the tracks."

He was given medical attention. His alleged victim's serious slash wound was stitched up.

The stabbed driver returned to collect his taxi later in the day and found his wheels had also been slashed.

Dyason said the incident stemmed from rivalry between the Delft and Nyanga taxi associations.

The driver would be charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.
