Cape Town - A 17-year-old teenager has been arrested for allegedly falsely claiming that two men attacked and stabbed her in a Cape Town park, Western Cape police said on Wednesday.

She would face charges of defeating the ends of justice, Captain FC van Wyk said.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the young woman claimed two black men attacked her in a park in Protea Heights, Brackenfell.

"They came from behind and the one smashed my head into the tree, picked me up and held some type of sharp object to my throat and told me if I make a noise he would end my life," she wrote.

"[I] started pulling away [and] he stabbed me on the side of my head which left me loosing [sic] a lot of blood while running home... those guys don't deserve to live."

One man had "very dirty" dreadlocks and the second wore a black beanie with a Nike logo, she claimed.

She said she opened a case of assault at a local police station and asked members of the public to contact her if they spot the men. Accompanying her post were photos apparently showing her injuries.

The Facebook post has since been deleted.

Van Wyk said investigations had established that her claims were false. He did not comment on whether the photographs of her injuries could have been doctored.

The teenager did not respond to SMSes, messages, or phone calls from News24.
