When 25-year-old Brandon-Lee Britz visited his local supermarket to do his monthly grocery shopping and his card payment was unexpectedly declined - the last thing he expected was a generous cashier to come to his aid.

Nolitha Dladlama – who's been identified as the bountiful cashier from Food Lover's Market in Somerset West in the Western Cape – paid R1 300 for his groceries.

"I'm not a regular customer at the store and when my card declined we looked for alternative ways to get the money," Britz, who lives in Somerset West, told YOU.

The cashier suggested that he use a nearby ATM to withdraw the cash but, according to him, the machine was faulty.

"In fear that I'd forfeit the daily special, I then asked the manager if they could kindly keep the goods so I could return the next day with payment," Brandon said.

Unfortunately, the store manager refused because it went against the store's policies.

"Moments later, Nolitha called me back to the till and agreed to pay for my groceries provided I'd pay her back the next day," Britz said with a chuckle.

"I couldn't believe it. Someone who doesn't even know me paid for my groceries.

"She willingly did it out of the goodness of her heart and that alone is something I'm eternally grateful for," he said.

Britz, who's since repaid Dladlama, wanted to take it a step further by letting the world know about her good deed and created a crowdfund account for her.

"She's such an amazing person and had it not been for her, we would've gone to bed hungry that evening," he said.

"I wanted to thank her in the most meaningful way and I thought, what better way than to raise funds equivalent to her monthly salary, or close."

So far, Dladlama's heartwarming deed has raised her more than R8 000 on her Backabuddy page.

Check out CCTV footage of Dladlama's act of kindness, taken from the store:

View this post on Instagram I have a heartwarming story to share! Last evening myself @itsjust_nicky @dylancachado were doing our monthly grocery shopping at Food Lovers Market Somerset West. After the cashier had rung all my items up our total came to R1300.00. She swiped my card and my card kept declining. So i went to try the Nedbank ATM in the store and this gave me an error. Finally i decided to transfer the money to @dylancachado and use his card to pay but this gave an error as well. Then the superhero cashier named Nolitha said she would pay the full amount for us if we could come and pay her in the morning! This goes to show that there are great people out there and i would like to pay it forward by starting a donation for her! My goal is to get roughly a monthly salary for her which is R6000 i have donated R1000 of my money and im sure she would appreciate any small donations, she is a true SA Hero and i hope she becomes famous! Many thank Nolitha you are a legend! #backabuddy #payitforward #faithinhumanity #gofundme
