Durban - A woman has appeared in the Ubombo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly trying to sell a child to a traditional healer for R100 000, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old woman's case was on Monday postponed until her bail application on July 12. She would remain in custody until then.

The matter came to light when Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit members were in Emanguzi looking for a missing child, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said.

“While investigating this case, they followed up information about a woman who was allegedly arranging to sell a child,” Zwane said.

It was not her own child. She had allegedly identified a child in the Emanguzi area. The woman and the traditional healer were allegedly busy making arrangements for the transaction when the matter was uncovered.

She was arrested on Friday and a case of human trafficking was opened.
