Cape Town – A child was killed when he was hit by a truck on Old Sir Lowry's Pass in the Western Cape on Saturday, ER24 said.

When paramedics arrived, the truck was parked in the middle of the road and the driver was found walking around it.

"On further assessment, paramedics found the body of the little boy lying motionless underneath the truck," said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

"Unfortunately, the child had already succumbed to his multiple, fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for him and he was declared dead on scene."

He said authorities would investigate the cause of the tragedy.
