Company director in court for allegedly defrauding health department

2016-06-15 13:02

East London - A company director has appeared in court after being charged with fraud and 60 counts of forgery involving quotations to win tenders.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Anelisa Feni said Shaun Raymond Sam was arrested by the directorate on Tuesday at his home in Beacon Bay.

He appeared in the East London Magistrate's Court on the same day.

"Sam, 50, the director of Masakhane Sales & Marketing CC, allegedly defrauded the Department of Health’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) of approximately R600 000 between 2005 and 2008 by committing fraud in order to win tenders," Feni said.

This is alleged to have been done through cover quoting.

The case was postponed to July 4.

"Similar cases involving eight other companies who also defrauded EMS are currently on trial before the East London Regional Court. In 2014 two other companies implicated in cases with the same modus operandi have been found guilty."
