The Constantia man accused of murdering his wife made his first appearance in the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday.

Rob Packham, a former manager at Twizza, uncharacteristically allowed himself to be photographed by the media as he entered the courtroom to face charges for the murder of his wife Gill Packham in February.

He is also charged with defeating or obstructing the administration of justice.

Judge Taswell Papier granted a request for a postponement of an application, in terms of Section 66 of the Criminal Procedure Act.

Prosecutor Susan Galloway applied to the court to lead evidence that Packham had violated his bail conditions.

Last week, Packham was arrested for allegedly breaching his bail conditions and intimidating witnesses.

Packham’s bail conditions preclude him from making any contact with State witnesses.

Gill Packham disappeared on February 22 and her charred remains were found in the boot of a burnt-out car at the Diep River train station.

According to an indictment, Packham allegedly used a blunt object to hit Gill on the head and allegedly provided the police with false information.

It was also revealed that the couple had experienced marital problems before Gill’s death.

The case was postponed until Friday.
