Cape Town - A Klerksdorp police captain and her mother have been sentenced for the murder of the officer's 60-year old stepfather.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlhathi in a statement said Mmotseng Vallecious Vinger, 45, and Suzan Motale, 61, were this week handed an 18-year sentenced in the Circuit of the Pretoria High Court in Potchefstroom.

The body of Oupa David Motale, 60, was found on a field in Orkney on December 10 2014 with panga wounds to his head, Hlhathi said.

According to investigations, Motale had gone to her husband’s workplace to enquire about pension benefits the day before his body was found.

“An evening before the incident, Motale was with his friends at a nearby tavern in the same street of his residential place. He was later accompanied by his neighbours to get home.

“Vinger and her mother were seen at their home by an eyewitness in the early hours of December 10 2014 at about 04:00, carrying the deceased body to Vinger’s vehicle.”

During the investigation, Vinger’s car was taken for forensic investigation. Her step-father’s blood was found in the vehicle, Hlhathi confirmed.

“Both Vinger and her mother could not confirm their actions towards the gruesome murder, except that Motale was due to get his pension money from his work place at an engineering mine in 2014.”
