Cape Town - More arrests in connection with the seizure of more than R5m in cash in an alleged money laundering, corruption and racketeering bust may be on the cards, the Hawks have said.

This was after Elton Bernard Abrahams, 33, appeared in the Bellville Magistrate's Court on Tuesday following an operation in conjunction with the department of transport at his Belhar home on Sunday.

A three-month investigation into the issuing of illegal roadworthy certificates and police clearances led to his apprehension.

Almost R5.3m in cash, ID documents and two vehicles were seized during the operation.

Authorities have labelled this a "telling blow to the underworld" in their fight against organised crime.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha said the probe into the illegal operation was still underway.
