Durban - Police are investigating a murder at a Durban beachfront hotel after the body of a man, who was shot twice in the head, was discovered on Thursday.

It is understood that the man, covered with a blanket, was discovered in a room on the 12th floor of the Durban Spa hotel on South Beach.

According to a source with knowledge of the incident, but who could not be named, the man was found in the bed of the hotel room.

“He had been covered with a blanket as if he was sleeping. On closer inspection it was noticed that the man had sustained two gunshot wounds to the head,” the source said.

“It would appear that the man had been shot through a pillow in an effort to silence the shots. The pillow was also found at the scene."

Police spokesperson, Major Thulani Zwane, as well as a spokesperson for the hotel, were unavailable for comment at the time of publishing.

In another incident, a man was shot and killed by a security guard at the Mount Edgecombe railway station on Wednesday night.

“A man in his thirties was fatally shot allegedly by a security guard at a railway station after an argument,” he said.

“He sustained three gunshot wounds. Phoenix police arrested a 48-year-old male and he will be charged for murder. He will appear in the Verulam Magistrate's Court soon,” Zwane said.
