Durban’s uShaka Marine World will shut down all its operations on Wednesday amid a national lockdown set to begin at midnight on Thursday.

On Monday, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a nationwide lockdown to combat the spread of the deadly coronavirus. The lockdown ends on 16 April.

During this time, the theme park will shut its doors to mitigate the impact of the virus, it said in a statement.

Last week, a video of a large group of people visiting the theme park’s ‘Wet 'n Wild’ facilities went viral on social media.

It showed a gathering of more than 100 people chanting “corona” while dancing.

But the theme park said the video was taken before Ramaphosa made that call.
