Cape Town - The unavailability of an interpreter has resulted in the trial of 10 Parow policemen accused of corruption, fraud and extortion being postponed by seven months.

Percy Claassen, Randall Phillips, Nicolaas Ryk, Muneer Daniels, Alviro Carolisen, Divan Webster, Dudley Abrahams, Casbeth Tsiri, Thembalethu Mazimela and Samkelo Mnyanda appeared in the Bellville Regional Court on Wednesday – their third appearance this week.

Frustrated family members who attended proceedings said the delay in the trial was upsetting and "damn expensive", and that they wanted to "get this whole thing over and done as soon as possible".

Proceedings were postponed on Tuesday as court interpreters for Northern Sotho, Afrikaans and isiXhosa were not immediately available.

On Wednesday, a Northern Sotho interpreter was still unavailable.

The matter was postponed to July 25.

The State alleges that in the course of 2012 and 2013, the officers demanded "fines" for drug possession from suspects or they would be arrested.

The accused were arrested in November 2014 by the police's anti-corruption unit.

They have pleaded not guilty and are out on R5 000 bail.
