Polokwane - Double murder-accused businessman Rameez Patel on Tuesday returned to his parents' home in Nirvana, where his mother was shot dead in September, as part of an inspection-in-loco by the Polokwane Magistrate's Court.

The inspection had been requested by Patel's lawyer, Tumi Mokwena. It went ahead in his absence after he failed to pitch up.

Patel is applying to be released on bail in the murder case of his mother Mahejeen Banu Patel, who was killed on September 19.

The State alleged that Patel hired a hitman for R15 000.

According to the evidence presented in court, the assassin gained entry through a door that was always locked and could not be opened from the outside.

Investigators and witnesses argued that Patel might have opened the door for a hitman.

The inspection-in-loco was attended by the prosecutor, police and court officials.

A call was made to Mokwena and it emerged that he would not be part of the proceedings.

Once back at court, his colleague Floyd Legodi stood in his place and applied for a further postponement.

Magistrate Janine Ungerer postponed the case to November 14 for a further hearing.

Patel is currently on trial in the Limpopo High Court for allegedly killing his wife Fatima Patel.

She was shot and killed at the couple's apartment in Nirvana.

He was out on R250 000 bail when he was arrested for his mother's death.
