Polokwane – An 18-year-old student accused of murdering a classmate at a high school outside Seshego, near Polokwane, was denied bail in the Senwabarwana Magistrate's Court on Thursday, police said on Friday.

It is alleged that the accused stabbed Duncan Karabo Seema, 18, to death during a heated argument on Wednesday.

"The deceased was immediately taken to the local clinic, where he was certified dead on arrival," police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers has condemned acts of violence, saying they are still prevalent in some schools in the province.

"Schools are expected to be a safe and secured learning environment, without any act of violence or criminality," said Scheepers.

Members of the community, especially parents and guardians, were advised and encouraged to ensure that children attend school unarmed to prevent a similar incident from occurring.

The case has been postponed to March 2, 2018.
