Cape Town - An unconfirmed number of crew have been evacuated from a fishing ship that caught alight in Cape Town harbour on Wednesday morning.

"We have got six firefighting vehicles in attendance. The ship has 100 000l of diesel on it," city fire services spokesperson Liezl Moodie told News24.

Thick grey plumes of smoke billowed from the ship, which was docked in the container basement of the harbour.

This is a developing story. More to follow.
