WATCH: 'We were DA people but the ANC is helping us'

While Mmusi Maimane addressed DA supporters in Wentworth, Durban, a group of ANC supporters from The Ark Shelter explain why they defected to the ruling party.WATCH

Durban – The Democratic Alliance is investigating the authenticity of a photograph circulating on social media showing a group of DA supporters, mostly black, being transported on the back of a truck.

The picture shows a large number of DA supporters in a parked truck in the middle of the veld. It was not clear where the supporters were going or coming from.

DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, addressed the media on Tuesday morning on the sidelines of a post-manifesto launch tour of KwaZulu-Natal, where he encouraged people to vote in the local government elections taking place on August 3.

"We have been victims before where people put out all sorts of Facebook posts. I am investigating the authenticity of the picture. In the picture there are different races…" Maimane said.

"I need to know where it comes from, where it started and get to the bottom of it. I don’t stand for racists or an organisation that will have any racists in it…"

The party reportedly came under fire when the picture made the rounds on social media.

Twitter user @CdeJMN posted the picture on Facebook on April 27 saying: "Never mind the dehumanising, is this even legal? Kodwa abant bakithi nabo! Hhayi! (Our people though).”
