Cape Town – DA councillor Sam Pienaar has made his submission to the party on why he should not be suspended.

The councillor was given until 17:00 on Monday to explain why he should not be suspended for failure to declare his participation in a massacre more than 30 years ago.

He met the deadline, spokesperson Liza Albrecht said on Monday.

The PEC would now consider his application, before a final decision would be made.

They would be meeting on Tuesday to discuss a way forward, Albrecht said.

She said she could not give a timeline as to when he would know his fate.

This after it was reported that the 73-year-old councillor was involved in a shooting of anti-apartheid protesters in 1985

He was a commander in the SA Defence Force civilian defence unit on the Cape Flats and has been a DA councillor since 2011.

He heads sub-council 6, which includes parts of Bellville, Belhar and Bishop Lavis.

The 73-year-old was allegedly present at the planning of the Trojan Horse shooting in October 1985, which resulted in the death of three minors.
