Cape Town - Four teenagers, the youngest only 15 years old, have been arrested on a murder charge after a man was shot dead as he returned home from dropping his child at an Atlantis crèche.

The 32-year-old man died at the scene in Ardeness Street, Robinvale, on Wednesday morning.

Ward councillor Barbara Rass told News24 she had arrived at the scene after it had been cordoned off. The man had been in his car when he was shot.

She said she had gone to Ardeness Street after locals employed by the Expanded Public Works Programme contacted her to say that they were unable to do their jobs, as "bullets were flying".

She said she understood that the man was not the intended target and had been caught in the crossfire.

Sporadic shootings have been plaguing the streets of Robinvale recently, Rass added.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the shooting, saying that the four suspects – aged between 15 and 18 - were expected in the local magistrate's court once they had been charged.

He urged anyone with information on the shooting to phone CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
