Cape Town - Patricia de Lille is the DA's mayoral candidate for the City of Cape Town for another term.

Party leader Mmusi Maimane announced her candidacy on Monday.

She was one of five party members nominated to stand for the position. The others were Guy Andrews, Daniel Jacobs, Peter Meakin and Ursula Schenker.

Maimane highlighted some of De Lille's achievements as a member of the party and a mayor. He said they believed in democracy within the party and in giving the best candidate the job.

De Lille said she humbly accepted the nomination.

She mentioned some of the projects the City had been working on, including efforts to fight racism, and said corruption would not be tolerated.

She outlined some of the plans for the next five years, which included job creation.

She said Cape Town was the largest-growing city in the country, with about 203 informal settlements. It was not possible to provide housing for everyone at the same time.

"We are going to speed up delivery and we are going to make sure the mayoral committee members are out there on the ground all the time," she said.

Maimane said De Lille was chosen as mayoral candidate by an overwhelming number of votes.
