Pietermaritzburg - Lungile Princess Mthimkulu made another brief appearance in the regional court yesterday in connection with the deaths of eight primary schoolchildren in an accident exactly a year ago.

Mthimkulu is facing eight counts of culpable homicide arising from the accident in which pupils Snakhonke Mchunu (8), Owami Mahlaba (10), Sinenhlanhla Nkomo (8), Akhona Shezi (9), Sinethemba Chonco (7), Snenhlanhla Dlamini (7), Olwethu Vilakazi (9) and Nonzuzo Zuma (11) were killed.

Alternatively Mthimkulu is charged with reckless and negligent driving, or driving without consideration for other road users.

The bakkie she was driving, allegedly carrying over 20 pupils home from Fezokuhle Primary School, crashed into a house in Imbali.

The case was postponed until February 18, pending consultations with her attorney, S. Ngwenya.

Mthimkulu is out on warning in the case.
