Deadly house fire: Zuma and SANCO send condolences

Johannesburg – President Jacob Zuma on Saturday sent his condolences to the families of the nine victims of a house fire in Mitchell’s Plein.

"I am deeply saddened and shocked by this tragedy that has befallen the community of Mitchell's Plein today," Zuma said in a statement.

According to reports the house burnt completely to the ground.

"I wish to extend my condolences and those of the whole government to the families and relatives of the deceased during this difficult time."

The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) also described the fire in which three children perished as heartbreaking.

"We are saddened by the heartbreaking losses and wish to convey our condolences to the families, relatives, friends as well as the entire Mitchell's Plain community that is mourning the horrific and painful deaths," SANCO National Spokesperson, Jabu Mahlangu, said.
