Dog killed, elderly owner injured after being hit by car in Cape Town

Cape Town – An elderly man was left seriously injured and his dog was killed after they were hit by a car on Saturday morning in Kenilworth, Cape Town. 

The man, believed to be about 70, was out walking his rottweiler alongside the M3 when they were struck.

ER24's Pieter Rossouw said paramedics found the man lying in the middle of the road, bleeding profusely.

"He had sustained massive injuries, including fractures and lacerations."

The dog did not survive.

The man was transported to Groote Schuur Hospital for urgent treatment. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Authorities were investigating further.
