Durban - A woman who was found dead on Durban’s beachfront on Sunday near the Suncoast Casino has been identified.

Initial reports suggested that the woman was a British national, however, it has since been confirmed that she hails from Umbilo.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said that the woman was found lying in the bushes near the casino.

"On arrival, the deceased was found sitting in a crouched position. The deceased was fully clothed and there were no signs of injuries.

"The victim has been identified by her daughter as Charmaine De Lange, 53. It is alleged that the deceased had left her home in Umbilo, Durban, on December 31 2015 and was reported missing on the same day at Umbilo SAPS," Zwane said.

"The deceased is not a British national. No foul play is suspected due to the evidence that was found at the scene and her house," he added.
