Durban - Three members of the same family were killed in a horrific car crash on the N3 near Pinetown on Sunday.

Rescuecare spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said that the car carrying the three, a couple and their adult son, had slammed into a bridge stanchion of the M13 overpass in Paradise Valley.

"A single vehicle had left the roadway and collided with a concrete pillar coming to rest on its roof. A Father, mother and son were in the vehicle," he said.

"Two patients were entrapped in the wreckage and had sustained severe injuries. Unfortunately nothing more could be done by paramedics and they were declared deceased on the scene," Jamieson added.

He said the father had survived the initial impact but was in a critical state.

"Rescue Care's Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man on the scene, however due to the severity of his injuries he too passed away on the scene."
