Durban - A 16-year-old boy is lucky to be alive after a 60-metre plunge off a cliff in Sydenham, Durban, on Friday afternoon.

It is understood that the teen, a patient at the King DiniZulu Hospital, had left the grounds and later fell down the cliff.

The boy had fallen through thick brush and became lodged in tree branches just a metre off the ground before he was rescued by officers from the Police’s Search and Rescue Unit.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said the unit had been alerted to the boy’s plight.

He was rescued and transported back to hospital with minor injuries.
