Durban – A Durban man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing a taxi driver, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.

Mthokozisi Thusi, 26, was sentenced in the Durban High Court on Friday for killing 23-year-old Sikhumbuzo Ngema, Major Thulani Zwane said in a statement.

The two had an argument at the KwaMashu taxi rank on Malandela Road on November 6, 2014, around 19:00, during which Thusi stabbed Ngema several times. He died at a local clinic.

KwaMashu police arrested Thusi a few days later.

KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the heavy sentence and said such criminals deserved to be jailed for life.
