Durban - KwaZulu-Natal police were on Wednesday still searching for a man who was swept away when his shack was washed into a flooded canal near Brighton Beach.

The incident happened on Tuesday night amid a torrential downpour in the area, which caused water levels to rapidly rise.

It is understood that the small shack was positioned under a bridge across the M7 freeway.

Two men found themselves in trouble when the shack was swept away.

One of them was found.

"We can confirm that a 29-year-old man was rescued last night and was taken to hospital for medical attention," Major Thulani Zwane said in a statement.

"The second man, 30, is still missing and police search and rescue members are still searching for him."
