Durban – Ethekwini municipality residents should brace themselves for 7 hours of water cuts every night from Thursday.

The restrictions will take effect in about 100 areas in central and South Durban and be implemented from 21:00 until 04:00 the following day, every day, the municipality said in a statement on Thursday.

“Due to the ongoing drought in the province, the municipality is limiting the supply of potable water to all areas with the intention of prolonging the available storage for as long as possible.”

The frequent draining and filling of the water supply system had resulted in prolonged interruptions and repeated pipe bursts.

“These interventions will help to stabilise the water supply system and control the outflow from the reservoirs. Our intention is to provide you with an uninterrupted supply once we have realised the desired savings of 5%,” it said.
