EFF takes swipe at award-winning Mbete

2016-02-11 19:29

Parliament - MP's of the EFF on Thursday took swipes at Speaker of the National Assembly, Baleka Mbete after she received the Martin Luther King Legacy Award for International Service last month.

Party spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi addressed Mbete as: "My international award winning speaker of non-violence" as he and other party officials disrupted what was meant to be President Jacob Zuma's delivery of the State of the Nation Address.

Ndlozi's statement was met with laughter from other members of Parliament.

When Malema also stood up to address Mbete, he also mocked Mbete.

"You are winning awards now. Carry on like that. This kind of behaviour will stop you from winning more awards," he said.

Mbete had refused the EFF to address the National Assembly ahead of Zuma.

They had interrupted proceedings, claiming that they want clarity on which rules would apply during Thursday's proceedings.
