Kimberley – An elderly couple was found shot dead in a locked house at the Forestdale farm in Kimberley on Monday, Northern Cape police said.

Both had bullet wounds to their heads, said spokesperson Lieutenant Olebogeng Tawana.

"The couple were caretakers on the farm. One of the farm employees said he became concerned when he arrived on the farm and saw no sign of the couple. He immediately alerted the farm owner, who in turn contacted the police," Tawana said.

When the police arrived, they looked through a bedroom window and saw a man lying on the bed.

"They broke down the door and discovered the wife’s body on a chair in the kitchen, with a gun wound to her head."

A firearm was found next to the husband’s body.

"At this stage we suspect no foul play," he said.
