Johannesburg – A woman has died after three vehicles collided on the N2 south just before Scottsburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said based on reports from the scene, the vehicles were travelling south when a Mercedes collided with a minibus taxi before going on to hit the passenger side of a Toyota SUV.

"Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the damaged taxi in the breakdown lane while the crumpled remains of the Mercedes and the Toyota were found about 50m apart in the centre median," Botha said.

Apart from the one woman who died, two others were seriously injured. Six other people suffered minor injuries.

The exact detail as to what caused the initial crash and preceding events will form part of the South African Police Service (SAPS) investigation into the incident.
