Johannesburg - An Eskom employee appeared in the Stellenbosch Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for allegedly asking the parastatal’s suppliers to inflate their rates.

Eskom’s forensic department received a tip-off from a supplier that some employees were putting pressure them to inflate their hourly rate, spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said.

The overpayment would allegedly be shared among colluding employees.

The employee was arrested during the illegal transaction in Cape Town on Wednesday. More arrests are expected.
