Cape Town - Former UCT student and model Djavan Arrigone was on Friday sentenced to 200 hours of community service at the National Institute for Crime Prevention and the Reintegration of Offenders for urinating on a man from the balcony of a Claremont nightclub two years ago.

Arrigone was in December convicted in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court of assault and crimen injuria for racist remarks he made following the incident at Tiger Tiger in 2014.

Arrigone, 21, during his trial said he did not care if his urine landed on someone when he relieved himself that day.

Taxi driver Michelle Nomgcana was standing on the ground level and laid charges against the  former Boss model.

The agency no longer represents Arrigone, and two years ago distanced itself from him. The company said it did not condone such behaviour.

While he did not deny urinating on Nomgcana, Arrigone claimed it had been unintentional.

Magistrate Siviwe Yaki said it was disturbing that, in an era of democracy, such incidents were still being heard.

"It is even more sad when it is committed by our youth, who are born frees," she said.

Yaki described the incident as racially motivated, disgusting and inhumane.

Arrigone received a three-year prison sentence, but it was suspended for five years. He was also sentenced to complete 200 hours of community service.
